TESL NB Conference; Thank You for Yet Another Great Event – April, 2025

Some of our MAGMA Language Instructors attended the TESL NB Conference which took place in Saint John this year where they got the chance to meet fellow instructors from the province and attend some interesting presentations.<\/p>\n

One of the presentations, which included a panel of a teacher, a guidance counsellor, and students of different age groups was about a special program that the Saint John High School has developed: “Elevate”; a program completely designed with newcomer in mind. \u201cElevate\u201d was created to boost attendance, resilience and connection to the community.<\/p>\n

Another presentation, given by teacher Stacy Wilson, went over the many benefits and improvements she has seen in her research and practice within the ESL setting of including games within the curriculum. Not as something that is done every now and then, but rather as a center-point of the class. One of her motivations was observing that many introverted students felt more at ease to participate in game activities. Such activities bring out the competitive element that most people have, and in turn, greatly enhance the retention of new vocabulary and grammar.<\/p>\n

The last presentation revolved around the importance of film\/television in class. Although it could be challenging to start implementing, there are many benefits to be gained from it: the content that students learn in a relaxed and natural way can greatly improve their retention in the long run; specially for those who may not find the more rigorous academic, or task-based learning ideal.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Childcare Assistant Program Cohort 6 Graduation; Congratulation to the Graduates!

What a truly inspiring occasion it was celebrating the graduation of our dedicated students from the work-ready, sector-specific language training: Childcare Assistant Program!<\/p>\n

The event underscored the commitment and hard work these students have invested in preparing for a meaningful career in childcare.<\/p>\n

The program is specifically designed to equip graduates with the in-demand practical skills required to excel as childcare educators. The program offers a complementary approach that ensures that students not only understand child development and pertinent best practices but also possess the hands-on skills and confidence to thrive in Canadian childcare settings.<\/p>\n

We are proud of our graduates who are work-ready, equipped to integrate seamlessly into the Canadian workplace and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.<\/p>\n<\/div>

CLB3 Evening Class Visit to Art Exhibition

I had the pleasure of bringing my CLB 3 Evening students to attend the art exhibition of their fellow student Tawfiq Chichani<\/strong>, originally from Morocco. Held at Moncton City Hall, the exhibition showcased a stunning collection of pieces that revealed both technical skill and a deep personal connection to the subject matter.<\/p>\n

The exhibit was thoughtfully arranged, with each piece having its own distinct space, allowing us to really absorb the details. The lighting was soft but precise, giving each artwork a kind of reverence that encouraged us to pause and think. Some pieces were raw and expressive, while others were more contemplative and serene. This contrast between styles was refreshing, as it showcased the artist\u2019s versatility and deep understanding of different artistic techniques. It was clear that Tawfiq had put great thought into the presentation as much as the creation itself.<\/p>\n

There was also an undeniable sense of pride in knowing that a fellow student had put together such a professional and compelling body of work. It was clear that a great deal of effort and passion had gone into creating the exhibition, and the attention to detail was impressive.<\/p>\n

Overall, attending Tawfiq Chichani\u2019s art exhibition as part of a group was an enriching and inspiring experience for everyone. It opened up new conversations about creativity, personal expression, and the power of art to challenge and connect us.<\/p>\n<\/div>

MAGMA clients enjoyed an informative session on fraud and scams. Constable Grou shared important tips for avoiding and handling fraud and shared details about common scams that newcomers may encounter.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>

OJT Nurses Hygiene Presentation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Students in CLB 1 gained a broader understanding of hygiene practices and typical English words related to self-care. The nurses were helpful, and the students were engaged, asking questions and bravely practicing their English speaking skills. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>
